Collection consists of 39 files containing arrest records and mugshots for women arrested as suspected prostitutes in El Paso,
Texas between approximately 1915 and 1945 and one file for a man arrested as a suspected pimp. All of these files contain
arrest documents and many (though not all) contain mugshots. The collection also contains a file on city ordinances; a file
on the city's handling of women arrested with suspected sexually transmitted diseases, including a 1943 letter from the Chief
of Police to the mayor and city councilmen estimating the cost per month of handling women clinic subjects in the city jail
and 1943 correspondence from the Director of the El Paso City-County Health Unit to the mayor regarding costs of venereal
disease treatment for patients in the county jail. Also included is a 1935 letter from the El Paso County Medical Society
to the city's mayor and councilmen encouraging the passing of a city ordinance outlawing the sale of contraceptive devices
and three FBI forms with fingerprinting data from El Paso women arrested during the 1930s. Among the mugshots are three nitrate
negatives. Each of these has corresponding prints in the collection. The negatives are closed to researchers.
